Catching Up With Kiki Eide

ke

Kiana "Kiki" Eide, former member of TCR and the U.S. Junior National Team, talks about her new life living near Chicago and training on the U.S. Senior National Team.

So, why are you in Northbrook, just outside of Chicago?
Because, from Junior Group I was asked to be part of the Senior National Team. And their training center is in Deerfield. There were girls asked from all over the country to be on the team, and they all moved to Northbrook. There are six of us.

What is it like living away from home?
It's hard...knowing all my friends and my family are here. It's very hard.

What are the good things about living there?
I've met a lot of new people. I get to try new things. Mostly the whole experience is amazing.

What's the training schedule like?
Every day except Sunday. It's usually 4:00 until 7:30 or 8:00. The hardest part is trying to get school work done.

So what do you do for fun, to relax?
On Sundays sometimes we go out to eat somewhere in a group, with our parents. Like for sushi somewhere. Or I go on a walk with a friend in the morning. Usually we just hang out, or do something spontaneous.

By Jason Olson on April 3, 2012 at 12:57 pm

k.e.

Every four years we see and hear stories about the tough work that goes into the process of making it onto an Olympic team. Kiana Eide, a seventh-grader in Spring Lake Park who lives in St. Francis, is in the middle of that process as a rhythmic gymnast with hopes to represent the U.S. at the Junior Pan-Am Games in Guatemala.

Eide is part of the five-person team called Combo that trains out of Twin Cities Rhythmic Gymnastics in Fridley. The synchronized team has two routines, one with a ball and another with rope, as apparatus this year. Next year they will move on to ribbons and clubs.
